On the 22nd of September 2024, LIT Base Foundation International in collaboration with The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Greatness Assembly Baruwa, organized a free medical outreach aimed at providing vital healthcare services to underserved communities in Baruwa, Ipaja, Lagos. The event, held within the church premises, attracted a large turnout, with 50 beneficiaries receiving critical health assessments and treatments. This outreach is part of LIT Base Global’s ongoing efforts to improve access to healthcare for vulnerable populations, using faith-based partnerships as a key strategy for community engagement.
Objective: Providing Free Medical Services to Underserved Communities
The primary objective of the campaign was to provide free medical check-ups and health education to residents who may not have regular access to healthcare services. By situating this outreach within a faith-based setting, the campaign aimed to reduce barriers to healthcare access and promote the importance of regular health checks in detecting and managing chronic diseases.
Key Highlights of the Medical Check-Up
During the event, several significant health issues were identified and addressed by LIT Base Global’s volunteer healthcare practitioners, including nurses and doctors. Below are the key highlights:
50 beneficiaries received free medical check-ups.
10 cases of hypertension were identified and treated on-site.
5 diabetes cases were detected and managed, with participants receiving education on blood sugar control.
5 cases of malaria were diagnosed and treated.
10 cases of joint pain were treated with therapeutic massages, providing relief to the affected individuals.
The healthcare team provided not only medical intervention but also health education, empowering participants to manage their health more effectively.

Services Provided
The outreach offered a variety of services aimed at both treatment and preventive care. These services included:
Medical consultations: Individuals were assessed by healthcare professionals, who provided diagnoses and treatment for immediate health concerns.
Blood pressure checks and blood glucose screening: These were essential for detecting hypertension and diabetes, two common non-communicable diseases in Nigeria.
HIV counselling and testing: Participants had the opportunity to get tested and receive counselling on HIV prevention and treatment options.
Free body massages: In addition to medical treatments, participants received therapeutic massages to help alleviate joint pain and promote physical well-being.
Health education: The medical team provided valuable insights on how to manage chronic conditions and prevent future health complications.
Entertainment: Attendees were offered refreshments, including egg rolls and drinks, to ensure a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere.
Food distribution: Participants also received food items, such as noodles, to take home, adding an element of community care to the outreach.
Challenges Faced
Despite the success of the campaign, several challenges emerged that limited the scope of services provided:
Limited resources: While the turnout exceeded expectations, the available medical supplies and personnel were stretched thin.
Inadequate medications: There were not enough medications to fully meet the needs of all participants, particularly those with chronic conditions.
Large turnout: The high number of participants led to longer waiting times, which could have been alleviated with more personnel and resources.
Recommendations for Future Campaigns
Based on the challenges encountered, several recommendations were made to enhance future medical outreaches:
Quarterly medical outreaches: To ensure consistent access to healthcare, it was suggested that these events be held more frequently, ideally every quarter.
Training for local healthcare providers: Empowering local healthcare professionals would ensure sustainability and improve the quality of care in the community.
Increased community engagement: Building stronger relationships with the community would help in mobilizing more resources and encouraging regular health checks among residents.
