Today's article is a great read and I would implore my amiable readers to enjoy every bit of it, as we journey into the world of the founder of LIT Base Global to have her perspective, inspiration, challenges, and expectation of LIT Base Global. Her passion and drive toward excellence can be seen in the multiple awards won, not to mention the many hats she wears, and yet always has a smile to lighten up the room. I present to you Dr. Leticia Moshwe
1. May we meet you?
Certainly! I am Leticia Moshwe, the Founder and President of LIT Base Global. I’ve dedicated my life to humanitarian work, focusing on creating positive change in underprivileged communities worldwide. LIT Base Global was established with the belief that innovative, grassroots solutions can uplift communities, tackling complex issues from education and poverty to healthcare and empowerment.

2. What inspired you to start this NGO, and what motivates you to keep going every day?
The inspiration behind LIT Base Global stemmed from a deep-rooted commitment to addressing the structural inequalities that prevent individuals from achieving their potential. I have seen firsthand how barriers, whether educational, economic, global or social can limit people’s ability to grow and thrive. Founding this organization was my way of tackling these challenges at their roots, providing resources and support to empower individuals and communities who otherwise may not have access to such opportunities.
What motivates me daily is seeing the tangible, real-world impact of our work. Every program, partnership, and initiative we put into motion has the potential to change lives and uplift entire communities. Each success story—whether it’s a child receiving education, a woman launching her own business, or a family gaining access to healthcare—fuels my passion and commitment. It’s a profound privilege to contribute to these transformations, and it reminds me that, even in small ways, we’re helping to shape a future where equity and opportunity are attainable for all.

3. What are the biggest challenges you've faced in addressing the needs of low-income communities, and how have you overcome them?
A significant challenge has been securing consistent funding and resources to support programs that foster sustainable change. Working in under-resourced areas often requires a long-term commitment, yet funding is frequently short-term and project-based, which can limit the depth of our impact. To overcome this, we focus on building transparent and trusting relationships with donors, ensuring they see the direct and measurable results of their contributions. This approach reassures our supporters that their investments are making a difference.
Additionally, we emphasize data collection and storytelling to demonstrate the value and outcomes of our work, which has helped retain donors and attract new ones. We’ve also diversified our funding streams by partnering with local businesses and community organizations, creating mutual benefits and shared value. These efforts help stabilize our funding, allowing us to implement lasting, impactful programs that truly address the needs of the communities we serve.

4. Can you share some of the most impactful programs or initiatives your organization has implemented to uplift these communities?
One of our most transformative initiatives is focused on women’s empowerment, where we provide specialized training, mentorship, and resources to help women achieve economic independence. We believe that empowering women has a ripple effect, positively impacting entire families and communities. Through these programs, women gain skills in areas like entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and vocational trades. Many of the women we work with have gone on to start small businesses, creating new job opportunities and contributing to their local economies. This has fostered a culture of resilience, self-reliance, and growth within the communities. In addition, our education programs for youth play a significant role in breaking cycles of poverty. We establish learning hubs, provide school supplies, and run mentorship programs that connect young people with role models in various fields. These initiatives equip youth with not only the academic support they need but also a sense of purpose and the confidence to pursue their dreams. Similarly, our health initiatives focus on preventive care and health education, particularly in regions where access to healthcare is limited. By offering regular checkups and health awareness sessions, we’re able to make lasting improvements in community health.
5. What partnerships or collaborations have been particularly instrumental to your success, and what do you look for in potential partners?
Collaborations with local organizations and international NGOs have been vital to LIT Base Global’s success. Working with established local groups allows us to tap into their deep understanding of the community’s needs and cultural context, making our programs more relevant and impactful. For instance, local healthcare providers and educational institutions have enabled us to extend our reach and build trust within the community. In choosing partners, we prioritize those who share our values of transparency, accountability, and sustainability. We believe that a strong partnership is built on a shared vision and mutual respect for community-led solutions. We look for partners who are genuinely invested in making a difference, rather than those who may see it as a mere transaction. These aligned partnerships are key, as they ensure that all parties are working toward the same mission and are committed to achieving long-term, positive change in the communities we serve. This collaborative approach amplifies our impact and enables us to implement programs with depth and continuity.

6. How do you measure the success and impact of your programs, and what key outcomes are you most proud of?
At LIT Base Global, we employ a combination of quantitative and qualitative metrics to assess the success and impact of our programs. Quantitatively, we track measurable outcomes, such as improvements in health metrics, school attendance rates, literacy levels, and income growth within the communities we serve. For example, we monitor the number of women who gain employment or launch businesses after completing our empowerment programs and evaluate how these efforts contribute to family income stability over time. Qualitatively, we capture individual stories and testimonies that highlight the personal transformations resulting from our work. These stories allow us to see the human impact behind the numbers—like a mother who, through our programs, has become financially independent and can now afford education for her children. These success stories serve as powerful reminders of why we do what we do. We’re particularly proud of the generational impact we’re creating; many of the youth we’ve supported are now leaders in their communities, advocating for education and change. These outcomes show us that our work is creating a legacy of resilience and hope.

7. What do you believe are the most important steps society can take to create sustainable opportunities for low-income communities in the long term?
Creating sustainable opportunities for low-income communities requires a multi-faceted approach that goes beyond immediate aid. First, investing in education is paramount—it’s the foundation upon which individuals can build better lives. Access to quality education equips people with the skills and knowledge they need to pursue meaningful work and develop innovative solutions for their communities. Economic opportunities, including vocational training and small business support, are also essential, as they empower individuals to become financially independent and contribute to local economies. Access to healthcare is equally crucial; when people are healthy, they are better able to work, learn, and support their families. But beyond these structural investments, it’s vital to empower local leaders and voices within these communities. When communities have a say in the solutions being implemented, they are more likely to thrive because these solutions address their needs and respect their unique contexts. Listening to and supporting local initiatives, promoting self-sufficiency, and fostering an environment where communities can lead their own change are the cornerstones of creating sustainable, long-term impact. Through this approach, society can help build a more equitable world where opportunity is accessible to all.
